Throw me your Fishing Line

Isaiah 46:4 (ERV) … and I will still be carrying you when you are old. Your hair will turn gray, and I will still carry you. I made you, and I will carry you to safety.

As she sat down thinking – many thoughts about her current situation pranced about her mind. She feels tired, not wanting to have to deal with anything, she remembers being here before; in a time when her world was dark and pulling her into what felt like volcano with its anger, ready to spill over into her calm. A calm that she tried so hard to maintain, so how did I get here she screamed out in the darkness of her mind not making a sound.

“Throw me your fishing line God” she says, “because I am very afraid of where I am. I cannot go back; I do not want to go back. Throw me any fishing line, please; I do not want to do anything but to cling to you as hard as I can right now. I know what I want and it does not include going back to where I am coming from.”

“So throw me your fishing-line” she pleaded “because I am drowning here, drowning in misery. A misery I created knowing but unknowingly. Throw me your fishing line.”

There are times we put ourselves in situations even though we know beforehand that the situation will cause a mess. I have been there a few times so I understand very well that it is all about temptation.  What we have to keep in mind, however, is that, when we give in to temptation we have to be prepared to deal with the consequences. In that moment we need to repent and ask for forgiveness, and then accept that we are forgiven. We then need to move forward, determined and resolute to not give in to temptation and to recognize and resist every instance of it.

God loves us and he knows us more than we know ourselves, he knows our weaknesses too and that is why we should constantly seek his strength through the words of the Bible. God loves us…He knows us and we need not worry because He is always ready to throw us the fishing line as soon as we ask Him to.

This story reminds me when Jesus walked on water, and Peter stepped out onto the sea and tried to walk only to be of little faith. Jesus reached out his hand and took Peter by the hand, lifting him up out of the water. Yes, God did create us…God knows us better than we know ourselves. So, we as humans must ask ourselves, why do we find it hard to trust the true God, the God who created us, the God who has not left us? When we are in troubled times, it is us who has turned away from God, it is us who must stay close to God, it is us who must always give Him thanks and praise. It is us, humans, who need to be saved…it is us, humans, who should follow God, search for God…not the other way around. All we as humans have to do is call upon the true God…the only God.
