Philippians 3:14 (NLT) I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
To press on is to advance, march on, move on, progress, pass on, go on – move forward also to start or continue doing something in a determined way, often despite problems (according to the Cambridge and free word dictionaries).
When we look at what is happening around us in today’s world, the many influences, the many opportunities that seem so right, the many ways to “skin a cat”. The get rich quick schemes, the competitive spirit, the “me first” spirit, the “new age” thinking that causes us to believe we are in total control. So many things that complicate a life that really should be one that is simplistic in nature.
Is it any wonder when we see the light of God we have to press on resolutely despite all the things that pull us in different directions. We press on determinedly knowing that once we get to the end there is an amazing prize that is waiting on us.
Unfortunately we sometimes start the race not knowing the relentless stance that we will have to adopt and then we encounter everything that is bent on distracting us and sometimes we do get distracted. It is good however that we have the ultimate Coach who has been there and is there for us through to the end. So the moment we get distracted he reins us in reminding us of who we are and where our eyes should be fixed – resolute to the finish line.
I encourage us all who have started the race to press on, to advance, to progress, to pass on in a determined way, the problems that we will encounter. Speak to your coach – Jesus as often as you can, keep him close and assuredly you will get to the end as a winner because I am here to tell you that is the way you started the race any how – as the winner you are.
Press on.
