Proverbs 17:22 (MSG)
A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired.
Do you remember the famous show – Smile, You’re on candid camera? Candid Camera is an American show where there were hidden cameras and scenes created using ordinary people or sometimes celebrities with the agenda of playing a practical joke . The individuals would be confronted with unusual situations, sometimes involving trick props. When the joke was revealed, victims would be told the show’s catchphrase, “Smile, you’re on Candid Camera.”
As I reflect on the show I thought about our lives and what if we viewed our circumstances as not a real reflection of our lives per se. What if we encountered something unimaginable and are able to ourselves, Smile, I’m on candid camera – as in , this is not really happening. Do you think we would respond differently and handle the situation a little better? Not to make light and to laugh it off (as we would say) but to respond in a way that takes away our anxiety and any other feeling that we may have? After all we do get anxious about situations we have no control over. I believe if we respond smile, I’m on candid camera, it would allow us to return to a” cheerful” disposition which is always good for our health! What say you?
