Being disciples of Christ is not an easy job, as we see in Matthew 10. Disciples travel a road like sheep among wolves, so awareness is essential. Many things await the right opportunity to discredit Christ’s disciples. People and situations will try to impede a disciple’s journey, so calling unnecessary attention to themselves is not wise. They must always be on the lookout for danger. A disciple must be smart and do God’s work quietly, effectively, and unassumingly. Disciples need to know they may never be understood and might be falsely accused to silence them. However, when wrongfully accused, they can use the increased attention to their advantage by standing firm in God’s word and turning the situation around to glorify God. God will always direct His disciples’ footsteps.
So as disciples of Christ, stand firm in what you know to be true. Let God’s light shine through you in this dark world. Even those close to you may want you to dim your light, but let it shine even brighter. Love God, not man; choose to please God, not man. Remember, you are representing your Father above; keep that foremost in your mind. Stay the course and allow God’s light to shine so brightly through you that no darkness can prevail. The darkness will shrink in the presence of God’s light within you.
I urge you today to do what you must to complete your assignment. Fear no one but God; man can kill the body, but the soul and spirit are untouchable. Let no situation intimidate you or cause you to stumble. Yearn to know God and the power of His resurrection and to participate in His suffering (Philippians 3:10). Let us show how serious we are about getting closer to God. Show how far we are willing to go with God. Continue with the assignment you have been given. Take baby steps and start small; do small and kind deeds. Develop the habits needed now for doing greater things for God as we are elevated. We must show our capabilities and dedication to performing and withstanding the negatives that will come our way.
Remain consistent and disciplined in God’s work. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
