I don’t know about you, but I am a Christian, and I firmly believe in Jesus. I believe that He came to Earth and willingly sacrificed Himself on the cross to save both you and me. Now, He sits at the right hand of the Living God, the same God who assisted David in his victorious battle against Goliath. In the story of David and Goliath, there is a crucial line that I want to emphasize. David declared that this fight was not his, but that the God of the Angel Armies would fight and deliver Goliath to the Israelites.
The whole earth will know that there’s an extraordinary God in Israel. And everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn’t save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God—he’s handing you to us on a platter!”
1 Samuel 17:47
Often, we face problems, challenges, and difficulties in our lives—Goliaths, so to speak, much like Saul and his men did. And we become terrified as they too did, despite having the Living God on our side. However, David’s story serves as a reminder that we should confidently recognize and acknowledge who stands with us and fights our battles. When Jesus left this Earth, He made it clear that we would still encounter troubles and hardships. Nevertheless, I believe that amidst these trials, we can live a life that trumps these trials.
I also refuse to believe that God intended for us to live lives filled with strife and conflict while we are here on Earth. That is precisely why we should take inspiration from the stories of David and others in the Bible who triumphed over their enemies, Ruth, Moses, Abraham, Joshua, and more These stories teach us that we, too, can overcome any obstacle or challenge we encounter but we must grasp our identity in God and understand His role in our lives. We must understand who we are to God and who he is to us and we cannot be overwhelmed to the point that we are unable to use the weapon of prayer.
I always emphasize that David’s story teaches us that the battle does not belong to us, but to the Lord. Battles don’t necessarily have to be physical; they can be mental or spiritual. The key is to acknowledge that what we are unable to accomplish on our own, God can do for us. What seems impossible for us as humans is possible for God without a doubt. We have the God of the Angel Armies on our side, fighting on our behalf, and like David, we must exhibit confidence and confront the uncircumcised Philistines, recognizing that they are not someone of God. We need to comprehend the advantage we possess through our Heavenly Father. Remember, what is impossible for man is possible for God, no questions asked.
We must have confidence in our identity as children of God and understand the advantages we have through our Heavenly Father. Therefore, as Christians, let us not be overwhelmed by the challenges we face. Instead, let us be steadfast in our faith, knowing that the God of the Angel Armies is fighting for us. Just as David boldly confronted Goliath, we too can confront our obstacles with assurance, knowing that victory is possible through God. May we always remember that what is impossible for us as humans is indeed possible with God by our side.
