“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you.
Isaiah 60:1 NLT
How can we allow the glory of the Lord to shine through us to others?
So the Bible verse speaks specifically to Jerusalem in Isaiah 60:1, and if you were to read all of it, you would realise it is a time of restoration and also a time when Jerusalem gets the charge to become an example to the world. Additionally, they must position themselves as a group for the world to rely on.
Their charge and posture are no different for Christian today as we live in a world without direction. A world where anything goes, good or bad—and it is not usually the good things that get the green light. And so Christians must understand their place in what I love to call the grand scheme of God’s plan for all of us.
We need to be the light that guides fellow Christians or those who have a heart for God but have yet to find him. We must be the example of peace that this world needs. Our voices must flood the four corners of this world so others understand their light and that goodness and mercy are theirs. We must demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit and create an atmosphere that welcomes order and control over emotions that may be wild. We must be the light that illuminates the darkness and guide those unsteady in their Christian journey to a well-lit path that leads them to salvation and eternal life. All this becomes possible when we heed Isaiah 60:1; when we welcome God’s glory to shine through us.
How do we do this?
- Listen and stay attuned to the Holy Spirit’s promptings, then move in the direction the Spirit instructs us.
- Remain steadfast through prayer and faithfulness living.
- Courageously make the right choices by resisting the temptations of the enemy.
- Controlling our impulsive nature and yielding to God’s nature.
- Pray for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
Welcoming God’s glory requires us to know who we are and what we are to do. Staying focused on our gift and sharing it with the world, understanding that the spiritual gift given through the Holy Spirit is not for us but for carrying out God’s mandate on our lives to serve others.
While we are above ground, we must understand that this world is not our home, and we must not get caught up with how this world operates. Instead, our purpose must take precedence over the demands of the world. Many distractions evoke different emotions in us, but we must attune the relevant senses as we remember how Christ was on this earth and try to emulate him as we lead our lives.
Let God’s glory shine through you today. The world needs to see it.
Lots of Love & Amazing Light.
