I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” Matthew 11:30.
Let me start by saying the Christian walk is not an easy one, well, it was not for me. It has taken me years with many failures to get to where I am today, where I understand that walking with Christ makes life so much easier. It is not walking in faith (only), but walking with Christ in faith, there is nothing that we can do by ourselves successfully, but when we team up with Christ, life becomes easy.
Our innate nature causes us to gravitate towards the opposite of what our lives with Christ demand and our unsatisfied longing for the things of the world—the status, the notoriety, the attention, the material things, cause our life to be a burden, at times. Some may not agree with me on this—but I want to suggest that we put aside our desires to feel accomplished by the world standards for a minute and instead seek Christ. Commit to putting him first, then resume our goals and ambitions seeking, maybe, just maybe, we will find life easier, and things falling into place easier.
Accepting Christ’s yoke is a denial of oneself; think about your life for a minute, are you trying to direct everything that happens, how is that going for you? I can attest to doing that. Today my stance is—whatever you say, Lord. In adopting that stance, I have grown, and I now experience a peace I have never experienced before. I find myself walking away from what could potentially be negative occurrences in my life. I find that I experience daily miracles. Many times life could be so much easier for us if we make and commit to the “difficult” decision of going with Christ, then we may experience a lighter burden, what a paradox—but one that can lead us into our best life, a peaceful one. His yoke is easy, and His burden light.
When you team up two animals with a yoke around their necks, it makes the burden they must carry so much lighter and easier to manage. It is the same for us; accepting Christ’s yoke causes our burden to be lighter.
So we are given a choice today, continue with the yoke of the world—the expectations, the demands or, accept Christ’s yoke that frees us from the worldly demands and gives us His, a lighter yoke—to put Him first, live peace, truth, and love. Be more focused and productive, going after the things of Christ and not of the world. A yoke supported by Him. Christ wants to do that for you today. He wants to team up with you, not as equal, but as your loving support because He knows that, no matter how you try to do life outside of His will for you, you will get nowhere.
Do you want an easier life? Then accept Christ today, “My Yoke is Easy, and My Burden is Light” is what He is saying to all of us. Do yourself a favour, accept what He lovingly proffers. Your life will become easier to manage.
