Sunday Inspire – 5 Ways to deal with Disappointment

Most times it is hard to move beyond any form of disappointment and I am not here to “pretty up” anything. I will be the first to admit that it is difficult to deal with situations that are less than but we also should understand that life will never offer us the perfection that we desire all the time. Life will have good and bad times but if we condition our minds and practice some of the ways to move beyond disappointment (listed below) we may find life a bit easier, and the disappointments not as challenging as before.

Nothing should rob us of our joy that is God given and, yes, it is easier said than done but do we understand when we are told that we wrestle not against flesh and blood?  Once we truly understand that, we will experience a better life, one that allows us to move quickly and easily beyond anything that could get us down. We quickly see that “no disappointment” is worth our effort and our time.

Romans 8:28 (NASB) – And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

A powerful verse that shows we need not be disappointed for very long…

Here are 5 ways that may help us move beyond/deal with disappointment.

Trust: Know that despite what it may seem like, it will work out for good once we are fitting in God’s plan. I have had so many instances where I see this evident in my life so I no longer worry, I let go and trust because I know who has me in the palm of His hands.

Choose Good over evil always: It is very hard for us as humans to turn the other cheek; we look for ways to settle the score via our ego. Understand however that silence rings louder than any scream. Sometimes we ought to get quiet and choose the higher ground then allow things to work itself out, despite our ego telling us otherwise.

Be still: This ties into the previous point but I will add that when we get still, it keeps us safe and sane. Sometimes we may react out of anger causing a worst position; Getting still keeps us safe and sane.

Pray: I once heard that prayer doesn’t change the situation but it changes us – and it changes us for the better. If this is the truth, then, shouldn’t we be seeking ways to improve our disposition? Not only does prayer do that but it also gives us the peace that we need to handle every disappointment. When we pray we get the peace that we need to shake it off and move on.

Feel the gratitude: It is easy for the negatives to overwhelm the positives, making it seem like nothing good is happening in our lives. How about we pause and make an assessment of every good thing that has happened to us, perhaps that will highlight that we are blessed many times over. This is what happens when we express gratitude. It changes disappointments into JOY.

If we practice the above, we may very well be on our way to living a harmonious life, one that allows disappointment to exist amidst our Joy, allowing us to see that there is no need to withdraw and enter into a poor me state.
