Comparing ourselves is not in God’s plan

Comparison is one of the greatest injustices we could do to ourselves and others. It robs us of our LOVE towards ourselves and robs others of our LOVE towards them. JPJ

If we were to walk (if only for a minute) in the shoes of others that we judge, perhaps we would not be quick to judge. JPJ

In  Matthew 7:1-5 (MSG) we are offered a Simple Guide for Behavior which tells us not to pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

Sounds extremely harsh but it is what it is. Sadly this is how our world is today whether we are Christians or non-Christians. Instead of us coming together and praying for each other, knowing that none of us is free from sin or trouble we easily forget! We therefore compare, condemn and judge.

The Bible tells us in John 8:7, if any is without sin let him cast the first stone and guess what once again none of us is without sin. None of us is more righteous than the other; we are all in the world dealing with the same things, battling not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of the dark world.

One thing that I am impressed upon to highlight is our pastors. We  compare them with ourselves and forget that they too are in the world alongside us fighting the good fight. They also are not sin free. They are no different from us in regards to the issue of sin. They need prayer as much as we do. But do we pray for our pastors or do we say they are okay and forget about them until we have a reason to interact with them such as Sunday morning service. Once again they need our Prayers too.

We should revisit the First Century Church found in Acts 2. Following their example of togetherness, we need to come together in prayer for each other,  not in comparing and judging. Comparing and judging will only lead to separation and strife (us and them mentality). We cannot survive alone. Not in this dark world.

We are never above sin and temptation (which will lead to comparing and judging) so instead of breaking down each other we need to lift each other. We need to stop comparing our ways with the ways of others. We are never on the same spiritual level. Therefore those who are stronger need to help those who are weaker. Those who are WEAK can also remind the strong ones of where they use to be. We need to see ourselves in each other and support each other. Encourage each other so we can be in one accord; having the same focus and same objective which is to get to Heaven together.

Remember the golden rule in Luke 6:31 (NIV) do to others as you would have them do to you AND Mark 12:31 (NIV) The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.

Let us not compare and then we will be able to give real LOVE.
