A big portion of our lives requires for us to make decisions and as Christians we know that good decision making is important to us. It is the difference between success and failure. The difference between joy and sadness. The difference between winning and defeat and so much more. Nothing pleases the enemy more than when our choices are skewed either because we are impatient, exercise poor judgment or do not exercise the wisdom that is inherent in us. Impatience is the thing that gets the better of us most times, and the enemy knowing this feeds into our impatience with all sorts of lies. He colors everything and makes it seem picture perfect. If we are not on guard we will fall into his trap.
So when making decisions that will greatly impact our lives I suggest we look at a few things and ask some questions of ourselves.
- Are we being impatient OR are we waiting patiently while seeking God’s approval and His will?
- Are we making sure that the outcome lines up with God’s words and his desires for?
- Are we seeking God in all we do or are our motives all about us?
- Are we viewing the big picture, looking at it from all angles, using different scenarios to ensure a good outcome or are do we have a one-sided view?
- Ask “what if” questions.
- Be calm…let the peace come to us, this is most important. Clarity comes through calmness.
- Are we seeking God’s approval or are we questioning ourselves too much and the situation more than we need to. If we are questioning the situation then perhaps we are on the wrong path.
- Are we seeking others thoughts/opinion on the matter especially family? Sometimes our family traditions and thinking impact our choices and is oftentimes not the answer.
- Was this suggestion/situation brought on by someone else? This could be a distraction.
- Are we seeking wisdom diligently through prayer and seeking God’s approval?
- If it’s a financial gain, is it just about the money or is their some benefit or service to another?
- Are we seeking God diligently and exercising patience?
- Let us try not to act with emotions, this is dangerous. The enemy uses our weakness against us.
- Are we seeking God’s will for our lives.
My repetition that we seek God is not a mistake; it is there to emphasize the importance of getting God’s approval in all matters related to our lives. We have to be more than aware that the enemy will change tactics and be on our guard at all times. We have to be very wary of what might present itself as truth. God loves us and wants the best for us. He is more than willing to put light on anything that may seem dark for us.
Let us consider on these verses that supports good-decision making; A vital key for success on our journey.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Let us seek God’s will prayerfully in a diligent and earnest way regarding our decision making. It is the best way and the way that will help in making life easier and allow us to experience the success that we need.
