Psalm 40:1-3 “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD”.
One of my greatest fears is to be misunderstood and often when misunderstandings arise each person is labeled, perhaps not intentionally but nonetheless. It has happened to me many times and it hurt to the core especially when these labels seem to stick without changing.
It is in these times that I have to find the strength to remind me of who I am and turn to the one who truly knows me and my heart. To not take it personal when I am labelled but instead to let it go because failing to let it go will push me head on into the “slimy pit” into the “mud and mire”.
Our inability to let go is a human shortcoming and we really should not knock ourselves for this weakness. It is good that we have assurance in Psalm 40 that when we turn to the Lord and wait patiently on him he will hear us when we cry out to him.
Many times I have had to just cry about my situation to the Lord, it’s the only thing that will allow me to feel lifted. Crying helps us to open ourselves to God in a very raw and broken way.
When we go to the Lord broken it allows him to give us a new perspective, he will lift us out of the mud and mire and set our feet on a rock. A rock that gives us a new firm foundation, he will give us a new song to sing, praising him for his goodness so others will see and understand that God can lift us from the darkest place and give us renewed hope despite our circumstances.
We need to send a clear message to the enemy that we identify when we are under attack. A message that tells him that we will not acknowledge his attacks and some battles are not worth the fight but instead requires us to let it go. It tells the enemy that we re-affirm our position with God as the head of our lives. The enemy cannot handle a Christian’s resistance and that is why we should be intentional in resisting him. James 4: 7 tells us …Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Affirm: I will identify immediately when I am being engaged in an attack and will choose to let it go. I will cry out to the Lord who will give me the strength that I need to let go of things not worthy of my focus. Instead I will resist the enemy. It is well and I am well.
Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”.
