God’s Promises to Us and Our Children

PROMISESIsaiah 44:3-4

For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
    and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.
They will spring up like grass in a meadow,
like poplar trees by flowing streams.

Isaiah 54:13

And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

Today as I picked up my children from school and watched the other parents doing the same I wondered if they would all get back to their destinations safely. I wondered if I would get back to my destination with my little ones that God has entrusted me with. It is normal to have this kind of fear inside, but as believers we know that there are promises that we can rely on to eliminate this fear. I got rid of the fear by pausing and saying a prayer for all the parents and children in the world.

It is natural for us to pick up our children, but is it natural for us to cover our lives and their lives with prayer. Prayer is a weapon that we should use as much as possible to safeguard our lives as well as our children’s lives from the enemy. As much as I can, I try to remind my children of  John 10:10 where it clearly tells us that the devil is out to kill, steal and destroy us. I often use this analogy (to my children) that when the devil tempts us and we give in and the result is problems all the devil is doing is laughing at us and we are the one’s suffering the consequences of giving in to him.

God made promises to us in these bible verses :
  • And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children (Isaiah 54:13).

This simply means that our responsibility as parents is to teach our children about God and his peace will be with them. Who does not want this for their children? Is it possible that those of us adults who are searching constantly for peace in our lives and searching for our purpose, is it because we were not taught about God and his love for us? We have a direct responsibility to teach our children and not just to send them to church and hope that  will be enough.

  • I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.
They will spring up like grass in a meadow,
like poplar trees by flowing streams. (Isaiah 44:3-4)

Once again which parent or caregiver would not want this promise attributed to their children’s lives and for this promise to be a family heritage?  Our children and their children to receive the Spirit of God so they spring up like grass in a meadow and like poplar trees by flowing streams. That is a promise of blessings beyond measure, enough blessings for them and for them to share with the world.

This also reminds me of the promise in Deuteronomy 28:10 that the lord will make us his special people and all the people on earth will know that we belong to the Lord and will respect us. That is a great promise for us and our children.

All of the above tells me that I can eliminate my worrying over my children by simply

  • Teaching them about God.
  • Teaching them about God’s promises towards them.
  • Living by example.

In doing all the above we can rest assured that God will see our intentions towards the covenant he made with us so many years ago and we know that God’s words remain, they cannot change. He will see that we are “doing” and he will also do his part. So let us free ourselves and know in faith that God’s words are true thereby allowing peace to rein in our lives and that of our children too.
