I’ve written about this before, and I’ll keep doing so because I believe, like myself, we all need occasional reminders.
Here’s what I am saying:
It’s never too late to change. But change rarely happens in a vacuum.
Here’s why: If you constantly need reminders about something important, it means you’re struggling and can’t do it alone. That’s where the Holy Spirit within comes in – the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead and resides within each of us. (Romans 8:11)
Often, I ponder the problem. We know what we need to do, but there’s another hurdle: admitting our inconsistencies and limitations. We lack discipline, and commitment, and sometimes fall into the trap of comparison, which keeps us stuck.
So, what do we do?
With all my heart, I believe bad habits can be broken immediately if that’s our true desire. Just like change itself, it requires us to rely on the Holy Spirit, not ourselves. The Holy Spirit can break us from old patterns, change us, and replace bad habits with good ones. But we must be willing participants, acknowledging our need for this help.
The Path Forward: Faith, Action, and a Plan
Our journey begins with prayer and opening ourselves to change through faith. We may need to learn new things, so being present and aware is crucial. Have faith in God’s ability to bring about change. Remember, most of our life is a walk of faith, requiring trust in God and his promises. These promises don’t guarantee an easy life, but a good one, even amidst challenges.
We must also be willing to do the things we don’t necessarily want to do, the things that will lead to transformation. Plan your days and stick to the plan. Identify the habits hindering you and actively counteract them.
Let’s Get Practical:
Here’s a simple example to get you started (remember, simplicity is key!):
- Get out of bed at 5 am.
- Read your Bible and pray (devotional time).
- Write down 3 things you’re grateful for.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Avoid electronic devices until a designated time.
This is just a starting point. Your proactivity in the process is crucial.
Make God Your Priority
A quote I recently encountered resonates deeply: “Our lives shouldn’t be about God and things, but just God.” This reminds me of Matthew 6:33, which tells us to put God first, and everything else will be added unto us. Make God your top priority, and everything else will fall into place.
Remember, change is possible, but it requires a willingness to surrender, a reliance on the Holy Spirit, and a commitment to taking action. Start today, and watch your life transform!
