Fatigue in a Troubled World, Seeking Strength and Wisdom in God

He energizes those who get tired,
    gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.

Isaiah 40:29-31

I am exhausted—physically, mentally, and emotionally. In this world, filled with expectations, we are not allowed to admit our fatigue. But I am tired, tired of the pain and suffering I witness around me. I am tired of the insensitivity of individuals who view life as meaningless and think it’s acceptable to take another’s life. I am tired of the perpetrators who prey on young girls. I am tired of manufacturers who prioritize shortcuts and disregard the harmful substances they put into the food we consume, showing no concern for the long-term consequences on our health. I am tired of succumbing to the allure of get-rich-quick schemes that only leave us with less than what we had. I am tired of innocent children being manipulated by others’ agendas. I am tired of a world that has spiraled into chaos, seemingly with no way to recover from the mess we have created. I am tired of ignoring the intuition that God has instilled within us to protect ourselves. I am just so exhausted.

In Hosea 4:6, God makes a profound statement: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” All the issues I mentioned above and more exist because we have chosen to forget about God. Even as Christians, we neglect the one thing within us that can keep us safe—our intuition, guided by the Holy Spirit.

We must also remember Proverbs 4:20: “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”

It is crucial that we are mindful of what we expose ourselves to through the media and other outlets, especially platforms like YouTube where everyone shares their opinions on current events. As Christians, our ultimate source should be the truth of God. That’s why it is vital to align our focus with our Heavenly Father’s expectations and instructions, to meditate on His word, and find success in our lives. Success includes the strength to persevere through challenging times, and to rise above our exhaustion. Could our tiredness be a consequence of what we allow into our lives? Can the wisdom from the Bible teach us how to protect ourselves and our children from predators? Can it guide us in caring for ourselves and others?

Everything we need is found in the Bible. We are instructed to pray, and did you know that prayer can help us rise above our circumstances?

I recently came across a short excerpt from a Pastor I admire, Joseph Prince, and I believe it is relevant to share here: If we are only feeding on the news media, magazines, or the unending stream of information on the Internet, it is no wonder that we feel weak and tired. There is just no nourishment for us there. Please hear what I am saying. It is all right to keep yourself abreast of current world events and be in the know about what is happening in the Middle East, trends in the economy and developments in the political arena. Such information may even be necessary for the industry that you are in. I am not asking you to become an ignoramus or to live in a cave. What I am saying is this: Know what is good for the wholeness of your body and mind. Be wise—don’t overdose yourself on information and knowledge that does not infuse you with God’s life and power.

So much is happening around us every day, and while we strive to follow our intuition and fulfill our responsibilities, there are times when it becomes incredibly challenging. In those moments, remember the passage in Isaiah 40:29-31: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” There is hope…

Sending you lots of love and incredible light!
