Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (MSG)
I remember a conversation with my husband where we had one of our many discussions about life. While I don’t recall the exact details, I believe it revolved around eating habits, and he expressed his belief that humans shouldn’t consume meat. This is where we disagree because I sometimes feel that life is somewhat unfair the way our physical bodies are structured. Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not saying that God made a mistake (smile)—but let me explain my viewpoint. Men seem to age better than women, at least in my opinion. That’s why I will never give up eating meat. Despite what the experts claim, I’m not entirely convinced that we can obtain all the necessary proteins and other nutrients to maintain our muscles solely from vegetables and fruits. I apologize for being skeptical, but that’s my stance. So when my husband brings up such topics, I feel compelled to interject.
I genuinely believe that the root of the problem lies in our excessive indulgence in worldly desires. It’s not just about food; it extends to everything that isn’t beneficial for us, as I mentioned earlier. We tend to overindulge in the things that require moderation. Take a moment to reflect on what I’m saying, and you’ll understand. We watch too much television, endlessly scroll through social media, rely on eating out for convenience, and the list goes on.
And here’s a newsflash: all of our excessive indulgences have an impact on our bodies. When we think about our bodies, we often consider what we eat, but it also includes what we expose ourselves to visually, what we listen to, what we allow into our personal spaces, what we prioritize, whether we get enough sleep, whether we educate ourselves, and whether we keep our minds stimulated. Are we embracing experiences that awaken our senses? In short, what choices are we making for ourselves?
If you were to assess your life and respond to the statement—“So let people see God in and through your body”, would your current actions reflect God to others? Are your choices conducive to the Holy Spirit finding peace within you?
- Are you using uplifting words that inspire others?
- Are you looking out for your fellow human beings?
- Are you displaying kindness, particularly to those who are difficult to be kind to?
- Are your decisions driven by noble intentions?
- Are you overeating and consuming unhealthy junk food?
- Are you engaging in physical exercise and nourishing your mind spiritually?
There are so many “are you” questions, so now answer them honestly and see. How are you living? Is it in a way that pleases God and allows others to see Him in you, or, are you living how you please and squandering the invaluable price God paid for you?
Believers, it is crucial to understand that the Bible serves as our guide for living in alignment with God’s expectations and in a way that enables us to lead wholesome lives. We shouldn’t interpret the Bible in a simplistic black-and-white manner; its teachings delve deeper. This scripture passage is profound and considers the essence of who we must be to create a space where the Holy Spirit can reside comfortably, enabling us to reach our full potential. If we fail to make wise choices that nurture an atmosphere of love and sanctity, we will find ourselves in a bind.
Your body is a sacred place, the dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Ponder upon this. Let us strive to make better choices regarding our bodies. Recognize the high price that was paid for you and begin to value yourself accordingly. Seek out the best situations that contribute to your personal well-being and growth. Embrace situations that promote holistic health—mind, soul, and spirit.
Our bodies are not mere vessels but sacred spaces where the Holy Spirit resides. We must consider the choices we make, not only regarding our physical nourishment but also in terms of what we expose ourselves to and prioritize in life. By aligning our actions with the teachings of the Bible and embracing a balanced approach to life, we can allow others to witness God’s presence within us. Let us honor the price paid for us and make conscious decisions that reflect our worth and the sanctity of our bodies. May we seek the best for ourselves, pursuing situations that foster our overall well-being and create an atmosphere of love and sacredness.
Lots of light & Amazing Love!!!
