Embracing Gratitude—Finding Beauty and Purpose in Life

I sit and gaze out at the horizon from the broad expansive view the windscreen of my car provides, and I am in awe. The meeting of sea and sky, the incredible creativity, beauty, majesty, and power of God knows no bounds. I am grateful to exist in this space and witness something so ordinary yet profoundly powerful, for it speaks to the existence of God. Many may deny this, but all they need to do is look beyond themselves into the horizon and accept that there was no mistake in the creation of our world. It did not happen by chance; we did not happen by chance. Every aspect of this world and life, past and present, is intentional.

Often, we believe we lack things and convince ourselves that we don’t have what we need. We look at others, never feeling satisfied, and consequently, frustration builds within us regarding our circumstances. We strive for more, disregarding the blessings already bestowed upon us by God. We begin complaining, leading to even greater frustration with life and ourselves. Before we know it, we find ourselves trapped in a cycle of misery. We fail to recognize that the energy we emit is the same energy we attract. So, what should we do?

How about viewing life through grateful eyes? Let’s start small by appreciating the ability to take even the tiniest breath, acknowledging that we can move, think, smell, feel, and touch. It may seem simplistic, but it’s a start. Let’s learn to appreciate everything around us, and from there, we can grow.

Years ago, I came across a quote by Melody Beattie that stuck with me:

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

This quote has stayed with me because it holds. If we read it slowly and incorporate it into our lives and experiences, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Life is beautiful, and the world was created perfectly. Any experience we have is a result of our creation. Gone are the days when we can blame people, our upbringing, or situations as excuses for not making better choices. Strive to make better choices. Strive to think positive thoughts, live in peace, and show compassion. See life as a beautiful journey. Design the life you desire and live that life.

Embrace immense gratitude. Decide that, no matter what, this is it. No more choosing to wallow in self-pity; but if you must, limit it to five minutes, then pick yourself up and keep moving forward. Don’t waste a single minute of your limited time on Earth, choose to find the beauty and purpose in life—look to creation, look beyond you, and begin to experience breathtaking moments.

Lots of love & amazing light.
