“Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus
Matthew 14:29
Many times I feel ashamed for allowing life to get to me, yes, I understand we are human, but should we be using that as a crutch, as a justification to feel better when we know as Christians that our lives are directed by the power of God’s words and how we live by faith. We may experience a momentary lapse, but shouldn’t we remember who we are in those moments of weakness?
The world we are living in today is not an easy world to live in, I am the first to admit that, However despite what we face daily—the atrocities of people turning against each other, manipulation and control, acts of nature, etc. We must stand, firmly resolute in knowing that if ‘Jesus says’ then that is all we need to make confidence become our nature. When Jesus told Peter to come onto the water, he stepped over the side of the boat and joined him; at that moment, confidence was Peter. And confidence becomes you when you take your eyes away from what may be going on around you that makes you fearful, and turn your gaze on Jesus—his words, promises, and faithfully believing in all he represents.
When we experience overwhelming situations, is it possible that our eyes are no longer on Jesus? A simple question that I am sure we can all agree on the answer to, but also a truth that we do not recognise happening to us when it actually does. Instead of taking control by remembering the confidence we have through Christ, we panic. Trying to solve things alone without success causes our confidence in who we are to diminish. We then look to people, and by doing that, the confidence we have because of God becomes confidence in others. Jesus is our confidence, the Holy Spirit within us is our confidence, God is our confidence, our Christian belief is our confidence—nothing else.
I encourage you and remind you that confidence is you because you stay anchored and rooted in God’s word; it is as simple as that. Understand that what we believe is what manifests in our lives, another simple truth. Our belief is fed by what we see, read, or listen to ( a reinforcement from Creflo Dollar Ministries). Our confidence is also fed by the very same. The question now becomes—what are you absorbing, what are you feeding on?
The next time you feel out of sorts, not your joyful self, perhaps you need to refocus on God’s words, remind yourself of what God says about you, and allow your confidence to be restored by all that you read. Our lives can become the life we long for simply by doing what is necessary to remain tied to the hip of Christ. Do not compromise yourself by neglecting to immerse yourself in God’s truth about you. That is one of the ways confidence is you.
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
Psalm 119:105-112
and a light for my path.
I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again:
I will obey your righteous regulations.
I have suffered much, O Lord;
restore my life again as you promised.
Lord, accept my offering of praise
and teach me your regulations.
My life constantly hangs in the balance,
but I will not stop obeying your instructions.
The wicked have set their traps for me,
but I will not turn from your commandments.
Your laws are my treasure;
they are my heart’s delight.
I am determined to keep your decrees
to the very end.
Stay focused and you will walk on water, confidence is you.
