Clearing The Junk From Our Lives

2021 was extraordinary; I kid you not as I look back purposefully and intentionally because of the Holy Spirit’s leading me into a quiet time. A time when I quieted my thoughts, my actions, my interactions, and purposefully sought God, not knowing how much I needed to at the time.

I was forced, and I use that word carefully, perhaps I should instead say that I was lovingly coerced to return to basics. That meant remembering when I gave my life to Christ, recalling how I felt in that moment, then allowing the feeling to cause me to recommit to who He is to me.

Getting into that quiet space allowed me to reflect on 2021 and everything it brought with it, I recognized the junk and clutter that filled my life, both mentally and physically. I recalled the different feelings—emotional feelings especially, that often led me to think my life was coming to an end, you see I am at the point where my mortality comes to mind quite easily, and it did not help that many people I knew, some who were close, and others not so close, were dying; death surrounded me. I was no longer comfortable in my space, and I felt misaligned from my true purpose. The things that brought me joy no longer did; many things were happening that I now sum up as junk.

I hope this is not too much for you, because, do not get me wrong, there were a few positive highlights, so it was not all bad.

I am saying all of this to say that…

We will have many experiences, some unnecessary, some that can be avoided or reduced once we live on purpose and intentionally daily, as much as we can. Living on purpose and intentionally may be hard for many of us, but guess what—many good things do not come easily.

Here Is How You Can Begin.

Develop a routine surrounding the things you have control over.

E.g. if you work a 9 to 5, you control the hours before and after work, be intentional during those times.

Pray when you wake up, give that time to God.

Take control of your thoughts by reminding yourself of who you are in Christ.

Have a nourishing breakfast that will fuel you for the day, and I will leave you to think of a few others.

Additionally, take time out during the day and get quiet; there are many instances in the New Testament where Jesus retreated to spend time alone or with his disciples.

Living With Passion Clears Junk.

In building a routine, please do not get mechanical about it, once again, be purposeful about it. Many times we do the right things out of habit, without passion. I recall a passage of scripture I read some time ago found in the book of Revelation, where God tells us we are lukewarm (Revelation 3:14-16). We cannot be lukewarm in our spiritual walk; we must always possess passion and joy. Lukewarm facilitates junk.

Meditating On and Repeating His Words Clears Junk.

Clear the junk by recommitting to Christ, meditating on his word throughout the day. Get to know the ‘If’ verses in the Bible where there are conditions with a promise—”if you do this, then I will do that”. God is true to His word and His promises. Once we meet His conditions, He will fulfill His promises, and we will experience an extraordinary life devoid of clutter and junk.  You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you. Isaiah 26:3. We have everything we need, and it is for us to keep our minds stayed on God, intentionally and purposefully. A purposeful mind, stayed on God prevents the junk, and situations that seem burdensome become easy to handle.

Lots of Love and Amazing Light as you begin to clear the junk from your life.

  1. Lukewarm facilates junk! This article was so thought-provoking and real. I too am at a stage in my life where I am purposeful in my actions and fighting hard to ensure that the things I am naturally good at like my 9 to 5 (which I still love) does not limit my ability to pursue the things that ignite a deeper sense of purpose and passion. I too want to walk in God’s footprint that he has laid out and to activate all the seeds he had planted inside of me. Good to know that I am not the only one with those morbid thoughts that trigger me to realise that everything I do from this point forward must have greater meaning. Thank you for sharing so openly…

Thank you for taking the time to read and share your thoughts Alison. Yes we are traveling the same road together and we will get to the end by living on purpose and with passion acknowledging the path that God has laid out for us and willingly walking that path. Cheers.
