This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket… Then the man said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” “What is your name?” the man asked. He replied, “Jacob.” “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. From now on you will be called Israel because you have fought with God and with men and have won.”
Genesis 32:24-28
Jacob wrestles with God. I rely on this passage of Scripture found in the Bible during the times I doubt myself. And not because it can be construed as a fight if you read without attaching real meaning. For me, it represents Jacob holding on to God with all that he had, knowing that God had blessings in store for him. And he was not willing to not have those blessings. Jacob knew this was an opportunity to connect with God personally, and Jacob was unwilling to let the opportunity pass him. So he held on to the man relentlessly for as long as he could, with all of his might. I believe Jacob also wanted to prove how much God meant to him, I am always saying I am nothing without God, but with Him, I am everything. I think Jacob felt the same way and understood that with God, he was everything.
Jacob wrestled with the man the passage of scripture says until the morning. When the man realized how persistent Jacob was, he touched his hip, and it loosened from the socket. It was only then that the man got away from the clutch of Jacob. But guess what Jacob not only got a limp from a dislocated hip bone but he received the blessings.
How many of us are willing to do what Jacob did. How many of us see the opportunity and decide like Jacob did to hold on. How many of us feel condemned and unworthy and decide that God cannot possibly see us let alone forgive us.
I encourage us all to hold on to God Our Father, hold on to the blessing, understand who God is and never let go.
Lots Of Love & Amazing Light.
