Matthew 11:28 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”.
Psalm 55:22 (NIV) “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”.
Last evening I was privileged (not) to watch a video sent to me via WhatsApp. I wouldn’t normally have time to ingest this particular video mostly because of the length but for whatever reason I settled in bed and did, which, in hindsight I wish I had not. The video was about the current state of the world and what the presenter felt we must do to help ourselves. In other words, how we must exercise wisdom in these times. It was interesting, his views that is, they were plausible, and at the end of the day made sense. He wanted us to prepare ourselves to expect worst than the current pandemic, he insisted on putting away food and other items in the likelihood of shortages etc. A move I believe a lot of us may have considered and have already started doing. It doesn’t hurt does it?
My aim in writing this is not about the semantics but more purposeful as it relates to my psyche having watched the video. The doom and gloom that I felt after, the helpless feeling that I felt. The burden and weight of uncertainty that rose within me that left me staring into nothingness. Not too long after I snapped into what I hope all Christians do, I went into Jesus save mode. I thought about the bible verses that would comfort, one of which was “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. I needed the reassurance that only a good Father could provide. I then went to bed and slept peacefully.
Upon waking and recalling the previous night, the two verses above along with the importance of protecting our “eye and ear gate” came in my spirit. You see, whether we accept it or not the bible is present in our lives for a reason. Every instruction, every correction every word written is useful to us in all aspects of our lives. That is why we are instructed to meditate upon it day and night to have success in life. Not monetary success but the success needed to live as winners in this world. The bible is not a decorative piece to be placed on our bedside table. It is not to to be opened so as to ward off evil (you know how our grandmothers do :-)) ; it is to be read and understood then applied in our lives.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23 KJV
You do recognize that you have total control over how life plays out for you, within reason of course; I refer to choices that we make. Others will play a part but ultimately it’s all on you. We have the resources and the capacity to create the most amazing lives. Take for example the verses that I started with… one of which states “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”. Psalm 55:22 (NIV). It is not an ask, it is a statement that once done will allow peace. Another verse that hit me recently is – If you say, (pay attention to the 3 words) “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91:9-10 (NIV).
Hmmm, are these not two verses with promises when acted on will ensure we have a better existence?
Are we taking the Lord at His word or are we complaining and carrying on then when trouble hits we react. We must proactively allow God’s word to be evident in our lives. He is our Father, Jesus is our Savior. He has equipped us with all that we need. We do not need to be burdened and overwhelmed by the uncertainties that we currently face; with wisdom we must take control. With his words we must take control. God’s word must come alive in our lives, allowing us to move purposely & confidently through our days.
Lay your burdens at the feet of Jesus, Cast all your cares upon Him, Protect your eye and ear gate; be careful of what you allow inside because I assure you whatever enters will become evident in your lives.
Be aware of your feeling – if you seem out of sorts – allow God’s word to re-align your psyche. Now is not the time to hide or feel weighed down, now is the time to live your best life. You are the light upon a hill, you are the salt of the earth. You are your Father’s child. Be that!
A Gentle, yet powerful reminder.
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
LOTS OF LOVE AND AMAZING LIGHT!
