Don’t Lose Your Way

Life is one big road, with a lot of signs, Signs and more signs Come on, come on. I’m gonna make up my mind To face reality all the time, whoa. Many are sorrow, many are joy Never you try to take life for a toy. Some men do good, Lord, some doing bad And this kind of bad doing driving me mad. ‘Cause when, sun shines today I go on my knees and pray I said, Lord, send me tomorrow I said, Lord, let me have joy. Never let me have sorrow I said, Lord, let me have joy Oh Lord, never let me have no sorrow.

Parts of the lyrics to “Lots Of Signs” by the late Tenor Saw

In a world that has truly lost its way; evident by greed, lack of respect and care for each other among many others; it becomes hard for those of us who want better, who want more for ourselves and know that there is more that life would give us if we remain on the path that we were created to trod. Unfortunately it gets harder each day as we see all that we have to deal with.

The song “Lots Of Signs” was released 35 years ago and not much has changed. The things that prevailed then is now our experience many years later and maybe on a greater scale. The wonderful thing is that the writer shares with us what he had to do in this section of the lyrics “Cause when, sun shines today I go on my knees and pray I said, Lord, send me tomorrow I said, Lord, let me have joy. Never let me have sorrow“. The great thing is, that has not changed and is the very thing we must do to not lose our way.

I remember years ago when I had started working and almost immediately after I bought my first car; I had this huge fear of getting lost while driving. Now that I think about it, even if I did get lost , it would have been a simple matter to ask for direction. At the time that was not a solution for me, as a matter of fact I did not want a solution, what I needed was to make sure it did not happen. And so, while driving in unfamiliar areas I would place my phone on handsfree and record my journey while incorporating specific landmarks to make it all easier for me. I DID NOT WANT TO LOSE MY WAY.

So it is with life in general, from we were young children there were certain values, guidelines and practices that we were taught so that we would not lose our way in life generally. Just like Tenor Saw, we know that we must pray so as to not be overtaken by what is happening around us. We must pray so that we will avoid the temptations and distractions that will present themselves sometimes in overt ways. Like me recording my journey, we must be practical about how we want to experience and get through life. We must have systems that will guide us as we go through day to day so that we DO NOT LOSE OUR WAY.

As Christians we have what and who we need. The Bible and the Holy Spirit are our value system and guide that will prevent us from losing our way. We cannot take it for granted that we are okay all by ourselves. There have been many occasions when I have thought I was good but found myself lacking and had to quickly get back to foundation. My Bible, and seeking the Holy Spirit. As Christians it is not a question of whether or not but it is a must.

And so I encourage all of us to understand what it is we need to do to live in the way God designed. A way that keeps us on track, a way that removes any fear of losing our selves and our way.
