But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
GENESIS 19:26 NIV
There are a lot of things that we sum up as human nature, but, I would love to start by asking the following; is it okay for us to be a certain way because it is human nature? Is it okay to continue doing and living mediocre rather than wholesome and exceptionally as God would have us, just because it is human nature?
I remember when intuitively I knew that a particular season of my life was coming to an end. I could feel things culminating because of certain experiences I was having at the time. So, of course the season ended and a new one began, one that was unfamiliar to me. I relocated to another country and set about making a new home away from all that was akin to my comfort zone.
Things went well for awhile. I truly enjoyed and embraced this new opportunity to start fresh; which I now recognize as God handing me a miracle then. But, not too long after I began to long for the ‘good ole days’ even though those days brought me immense despair.
Many of us miss the mark and the miracle by holding on to the past, the familiar, for different reasons. When we look back, we become like Lot’s wife… a pillar of salt! A memorabilia that reminds us of the effect of not looking away from the things meant to hold us back.
If we are unable to look ahead, we will never live free!…holding on to things that we should let go of allows the enemy/ “inner me” access to us…
Why look back? Once you do, you are expressing regret, that in itself is a sin. Especially if you are told by God to move forward and forget all that is behind you… all that is holding you back! What he has in store for you is far more precious than whatever you are leaving behind. Burying the past “ the hatchet” so to speak, frees us to live in God’s abundance. Looking ahead allows our loved ones and others to experience the best of us, while looking back keeps us stuck. It is like aiding and abetting our own demise. Holding on to things that we should let go of allows the enemy access to us; that is one of the reasons why forgiveness is so important. Think about it!
This week my prayer is that against all odds, you will look straight ahead into the abundance that God has in store for you. That you will not long for the familiar because it is human nature. Instead you will recognize that you are a spirit, experiencing a physical existence and so you must align your ways to your spirit world. The place where abundance and everything good resides.
Lots of Love & Amazing Light!
