And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’… yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:1-8 (NIV)
Witnessing death, physical and mental illness, physical limitations, loss of personal possessions, and the host of other things that allows us to live wholesomely can be traumatising. It can cause any one of us to lose hope even while holding on to Jesus’. And I bet He understands.
But while He does understand, there have to be some things that separate us from non-believers. One of which I call “our crazy faith”. A lot of individuals today are barely making it in light of what we are witnessing in the world today. God says in His Word that, “He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45) so, we are not exempt from pain. It is difficult when we ask for healing as an example and do not see any positive change. Especially when we recall in the bible that Jesus healed everyone while He was here on earth and yet we are losing our loved ones daily because they are not being healed.
Recently I was either reading or watching something, and it was about how we pray. It suggested that most of today’s prayers are laced with unbelief. We pray about things, situations yet we don’t believe we will get our answer… true/untrue? How are your prayers going?
The world we live in is a harsh one. The enemy is relentless in his pursuits, evident with everything that distracts us from life and our responsibilities. The bible says… he is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. And so WE MUST GET DRASTIC with our prayers. We must be relentless. And we must be willing to go all-out exercising our faith with increased fervor. This world we live in demands more than the mundane, laid-back praying. It calls for unyielding prayer that allows our faith to become a crazy business because we are not accepting less. We must recall Elisha who stretched out on the child twice before he sneezed. We must be like Esther who knew the implications of going to the king but went anyway and saved her people. We must be like Abraham who was willing to sacrifice Isaac – that took crazy faith in God. We must be like the persistent widow – now her faith was crazy!!!
Who thinks the enemy is playing? It is an all-out war on our lives and especially the lives of our children. I recently read the following in Revelation – a book I stay away from but not anymore because it shows me exactly what I am dealing with.
So who is with me now, how do we counteract this kind of stance? We need BOLD FAITH, UNSHAKEN FAITH… we need CRAZY FAITH.
And we must believe in the continued goodness of God, our foundation must be firm and one that does not accommodate doubt even when we may not see the immediate fruits of our crazy faith. We must allow our crazy faith to take us through every tough experience and allow it to cause us to rise above them. We must be steadfast and an example of light even while traversing through the darkness, it is worth it.
We must be willing to demonstrate crazy faith, the type that moves God, the type of faith He equipped us with knowing what we would be going up against; it is in us. Forget hopelessness, forget doom, and gloom. Know what you have been given and do what you must. Yes, we are in a war, but our crazy faith will win every battle!
