What are the mountains in our lives? Are these make believe, a fallacy that we concoct in our brain? Are mountains really real?
As I sat in church and listened to the message I received a new perspective on the word mountain.
Now the definition of mountain we all know, but, have we ever sought to think about the other words that are synonymous with the word mountain. Words such as peak, elevation, height, eminence, prominence, summit, pinnacle and so one, causing me to have a really good and bold feeling towards the word.
To the Christian mountains are seen as a large pile or quantity of something (also a definition from my research), to the Christian our mountains seem like a large obstacle that we sometimes fear not being able to conquer.
So do we conquer or possess our mountains?
The answer is to do both. In the final analysis our ideal situation should be one where we end up conquering the mountain or taking possession by standing on top of it. The question is how do we achieve this? How do we make this happen?
Mark 11:23 NIV
“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
Many times we allow the mountains to take control of our lives or we allow the mountainous circumstances to taunt us and play havoc with our lives, which should be lives filled with order. We hug our mountains, we coerce our mountains, we constantly give over our power to the mountains that we ought to conquer and possess, because of wavering faith and an inability to take hold and understand the power given to us.
Luke 10:19 NIV
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
I dare say if we have been given power as in the above verse to deal with serpents and scorpions then we must have power to take control of everything that causes us harm and causes us to feel threatened or disappointed or depressed even misjudged.
We ought to conquer and possess every mountain; we ought to stand on the pinnacle of every mountain with a boldness that is inherently us.
Joshua 14:12 (KJV)
Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.
What a wonderful verse that tells us to conquer and possess that which is ours and promised to us, without fear, despite what might be surrounding us. This was Caleb at 85 years old reminding Joshua of what was promised to him, without fear as he knew that God was with him.
That is all we too need to know, that God is with us in the midst of his words, in the midst of what surrounds us and in the midst of His promises towards us. Every mountain is ours to conquer and possess, to get us to the peak, elevation, height, eminence, prominence, summit, pinnacle of it, making us understand who we are and the power that we possess.
Go conquer and possess your mountain today without fear, but with a boldness and faith in God, and his words and His promises towards you.
Lots of love and light…
