Sunday Inspire – It is okay to cry

“I cry a lot when I feel empathy. I can feel heartbroken by life, and I cry quite easily, sometimes for no reason. It’s healthy, I think.”
Unknown.

“It is a cleansing of our soul that needs to take place or we will never get to a better place”. TheBeyondWoman

As I write this I can imagine someone surrendering to a long exhale, sighing with relief or merely nodding your head in agreement. Whatever you are doing understand that it is okay to cry, after all we are not super humans and in the same breath being human – super or otherwise we will have emotions that cause us to want to shed a few tears. We really are not robots.

At times to look good we put up a brave front and push everything under the rug not wanting to appear less than the strong person others think we are. We bury the feelings that are killing us for fear of being seen in a lesser light or perhaps stigmatized and ostracized. I have seen many lives crumble because of putting up with things that are killing us. Always holding on to the very thing that we ought to walk away from, the very thing that is causing us to be an emotional mess.

So cry if you must, I agree that it is healthy and it is a release of some sort that makes us feel better in the end. It is a cleansing of our soul that needs to take place or we will never get to a better place. The moment it continues indefinitely or there is no feeling better is the moment it becomes dangerous and then we need to muster up the self will to move on or get the help that we need. So as much as we all should cry, it is also imperative that we know and understand what we are feeling in each moment and that it is justified …anything else is cause for concern.

So Cry if you must, even Jesus cried as seen in the following passage found in John 11.

“Where is he buried?” he asked them. They told him, “Come and see.” Tears came to Jesus’ eyes.

So cry if you must, let it all out, in the end it will make life better, see it as a cleansing, ridding yourself of unwanted feelings and thoughts that cannot serve you in this moment.
