Matthew 14:13 (TLB) As soon as Jesus heard the news, he went off by himself in a boat to a remote area to be alone…
Today – as a matter of fact – this weekend was one in which I have had to withdraw just as in the reference scripture. I have found myself in a place that I fight to stay away from, but ever so often will find myself in. I do not consider it a weakness because try as we might, sometimes circumstance as well as people will drive us to that point. If we move or stay is a decision we have to make. The decision to move may come easy but fighting to move beyond the feeling or circumstance is the hard part and that is why like Jesus I HAD TO GET AWAY.
I had to withdraw in order to manage my emotions, unfortunately I could not withdraw completely but I had to do a couple of things that I knew would eliminate my present feelings and also to give me the ability to move beyond my current circumstance.
If at times you feel like I do then read on and see the steps that I took to help me to move away from things that were dragging me down in no particular order.
- I ignored the phone – sometimes we need to close out the incessant interruptions.
- I immersed myself as much as possible in chores.
- I took a drive by myself.
- I listened to music.
- I removed the attention from myself and gave it to someone else – While on the road I joked around with everyone I could. I used their joy to feed mine.
- I bought something I have been meaning to, I treated myself – even though it was not directly for me it was something I would see and it would bring me joy.
- Can I tell you as bad as it sounds I could not pray. Sometimes we do not need to pray but we need to steel ourselves and have a quiet resolve to exercise discipline and move beyond what we know we have been given power to move beyond. We have authority to do that …
- I went to bed early 🙂 .
Like Jesus I withdrew from everything – wrong energy, complaining, useless conversation and I tuned into myself. This allowed me to embrace the feeling and acknowledge it whilst being determined to get over it. I think that is a part of the key to moving beyond difficulties – to acknowledge what we are going through but knowing that it does not have to stay, it does not determine our outcome. Then we should intentionally do what it takes to dispel and cancel the feeling while replacing it with positive energy.
…and it worked.
