mouth

Are you putting your mouth to good use?

James 3:9-10   “Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!”

The same mouth that we use to praise God is the same mouth that we use to tear away at his creation. Perhaps you have been here before… At the receiving as well as the giving end. I have been, but it’s never too late to make a change (and change we must). That is why, it is important for us to read the bible which reinforces proper behavior and good attitudes, that make us winners in life.

It is easy to get caught up in a web of deceit; we easily identify wrong behavior in others but not in ourselves. Outside of that, the enemy will use people who we think are “good” to take us down a road we have no business going down, and, only because we trust that person. We see that in many churches where rather than encouraging the body of Christ to look within themselves, there is a promotion of half –truth messages.

Recently we were having a discussion in our family time where we spoke about believers hearing – we are blessed and they have not because they ask not. What comes next is forgotten – the part which speaks to asking with wrong motives. If we are not being our brother’s keeper, if our hearts are not right, if we smile before someone and behind them we tear them down…with our mouth… we cannot expect blessing and answered prayers. Here, we are also using our mouth to preach half-truth messages…

The bible warns us about this in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15(NLT)
These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

Most individuals have good intentions but having good intentions while embracing the values of the world, is never a good thing. We have to pray for a discerning Spirit so we know who is really with us. It is easy to get caught up in deceit, and so knowing God for ourselves becomes important.

Relationship with God is more important than religion, imagine being a friend of God…a friend of Christ. That is what we should strive for because then we will have the tools to live our best life while here on earth.

We need to ensure that we assess ourselves, our lives, our mouth and make sure that our mouth is being put to good use. One that benefits us, as well as others. In James 3:9-10 we may look at “being cursed” as in talking against others. I would like to think that it also speaks to our responsibility of feeding people with the right messages that will allow wholesome, truthful living.

Are we putting our mouth to good use in that regard?
