Wednesday Inspire – A Second chance

King David spoke of this, describing the happiness of an undeserving sinner who is declared “not guilty” by God. “Blessed and to be envied,” he said, “are those whose sins are forgiven and put out of sight. Yes, what joy there are for anyone whose sins are no longer counted against him by the Lord.”

  • Imagine waiting to be executed and then being told it was a mistake and not only was it a mistake but that you are free to go… Second chance perhaps.
  • Bringing it closer to home – do you remember as a child, your parent would say do not do this, or do not do that, but taking it as a challenge you go and do the very thing you are being warned against. The result inevitably is trouble and knowing that  your parents were not going to be pleased. Do you remember the feeling – the fear, the indecision, not knowing what to do? The guilt because this is something that could have been avoided. You then prepare for the consequences in the worst way and when your parent gets home, for whatever reason there are no repercussions, only a stern warning… Second chance perhaps.
  • What about being in a situation where you are running because you are being chased, knowing that if you get caught your assailant may very well end your life. So you do the best thing, you become the next sprint champion, running for your life until you are awakened, breathless and panting from the exertion and realize that you were dreaming… second chance?

In all three scenarios the only imaginable response is one of relief, isn’t it? The next feeling should be overwhelming joy – am I right?
The freedom you feel having been given a second chance in all 3 cases should be equated to the freedom we as believers need to feel having been released through Christ’s suffering from a life condemned. Our feelings should be as described by King David in Romans 4:6-8 …“describing the happiness of an undeserving sinner who is declared “not guilty” by God. “Blessed and to be envied,” he said, “are those whose sins are forgiven and put out of sight. Yes, what joy there is for anyone whose sins are no longer counted against him by the Lord.”

As believers in Christ we should live each day joyous with an understanding that we have been given a second chance to live free from fear, guilt or threats.
