John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Does that mean we are spirit too? Absolutely! Our physical body with the flesh and bones and muscles and sinews and veins and organs that comprises us is merely a holding area for our true self, our spirit.
If God is a spirit which the bible clearly tells us He is and we are made in His image then surely we too are spirit. Our true essence transcends all that our limited human mind can conceive. The fact that we are spirit makes us a lot more capable and powerful than we give ourselves credit to being. If we seriously tap into our essence we would achieve far more than we presently do.
Our spirit is far more intellectually capable than our physical reality; unfortunately most people cannot relate, we quickly add the “ifs, buts and maybes” rather than accept the truth. This brings me back to my point, we cannot fathom for a minute that we could be far greater than we can conceive, that we are no different from anyone else who has done and accomplished great things. We prefer to think that there is inequality among people when this is so far from the truth. We are made in His image and God gave each of us purpose to fulfill in this world, we are made equal, each with a gift. There will be persons with gifts that put them in the limelight while you and I may be required to stay in the background. Whatever we are required to do leads back to one thing – that we have a specific purpose to contribute to God’s greater picture.
We are spirit and the sooner we embrace the thought, the sooner we will realize that this world cannot give us what we think we need (our spiritual needs). Our inability to see this truth causes us to always search for a way to fill the void and ache of “something” missing in our lives; we cannot look to the world to fill our needs.
When we embrace our reality of being spirit then we will transcend and enter God’s secret place that really is not for everyone but is for the few who will embrace this concept.
God told us that we cannot be friends with the world and have Him in our lives. The physical world is separated from the spiritual world where God resides and there is no way we can have God in our lives if we are unable to let go of the physical. God wants us in tune with our spirit so that when the temptations and challenges come, we will be able to escape into his rest. His rest is the pure and wholesome spirit given to us which enables us to rise above our circumstances, physical environment and people who may try to impact us. We are stronger than those things (people/environment), we are more powerful than those things and we absolutely cannot coincide with them once we begin to embrace our spiritual side. Our spirit that is made in the image of God allows us to separate ourselves while still present in the body.
Our spirit holds the truth in our lives and not until we recognise this will we able to live our lives worry free and doubt free and simply put free from darkness. We are made in His image.
