Courage is rising above fear and seeing myself as a conqueror, well equipped and armored to fight the battles of life. What does that mean to me – Even though I did not understand the concept whilst hearing it repeated so many times, I believe that I now do. It means that God has given me power, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead to fight every battle that I have in life, the same power to live fearless. Our life will always be one of two things at a given point – us experiencing Joy or us fighting a battle that can drive fear into us. The Joy part is easy because that is a natural part or should be a natural part of us. On the other hand fighting is the hard part because we are fighting against someone that is really relentless. We are fighting against someone who wants to fill us with fear. It is at this point that we have to remember what God told Joshua:
What did God say to Joshua?
In Joshua 1:7-8, God’s instructions were “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
You and I are no different today, there are so many situations and people who come against us daily that would drive fear in us – not just physical fear, some are mental, emotional, financial – all types of fear cross our path daily. We are no different from Joshua in the scriptures and God wants us to have the same success over our fears. The only way we will rise above the fear is to do as Joshua was commanded; follow the commands and experience success. Remember, where there is fear, faith cannot exist. We are called to be courageous and to rise above fear so faith can abound in our lives. We are equipped to live courageously!
Look at what Luke 10:19 says “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
What fear (snake & scorpion) is preventing you from getting into alignment with God’s will for your life? Is it people fear, financial fear, mental fear – is it you? Whatever it is, meditate on God’s words, decide to be courageous by standing firm. Rise above fear, speak to the fear – speak it out of your life. Combat fear through meditation and adherence to the Holy Word. It’s your sword in hand. It’s your confidence booster, it’s your how to.
