Daniel 4:37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”
As I read the story of Nebuchadnezzar I see that it is a story of humility among other things.
Nebuchadnezzar on many occasions recognized that the God of Daniel was far superior to his gods and yet he went on worshipping other gods. Nebuchadnezzar was given dreams ( I wish I could get dreams)… that contained lessons through which would make him a better leader and yet he continued to glorify himself. He continued to think that he was a means to an end, that his greatness and success as a world leader was all his doing. He consistently admitted God’s greatness and denied God’s greatness (at the same time) despite all the revelation he recieved through his dreams.
Nebuchadnezzar had to deal with the consequences of his decisions, he had to learn the lessons and having learned, God restored him and everything he had before, he ended up being in a better position than that which prevailed before. Daniel 4:33-36.
In the end we see in Daniel 4:37 Nebuchadnezzar finally got it and worshipped God giving him Glory and praise by saying “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”
- Is there anything in your life that is causing you to not humble yourself?
- Is God teaching you a lesson of humility, what do you plan to do about it?
- Will you continue to think all you have achieved is your own doing?
I am a work in progress admittedly, I believe it takes deliberate action on our part to remove ourselves from the limelight that causes us to be proud and puffed up. I pray that we will recognise this pride and take steps to remove it through God’s help, as humility is a needed characteristic of a true beliver. I believe with consistent effort we will overcome this shortcoming (pride) in our life and embrace humility, holding on to it so at the end of the day we can be complete in Christ.
