Perseverance in Prayer

Prayer is paramount…oops am I talking about it too much? I doubt I can talk about it enough!!!

Prayer has become more than a necessity to me in recent times. I no longer just view prayer as covering my life or something that Christians need or ought to do. It has become like a focus in my life. Words cannot describe what prayer is to me now. It may seem silly but I know that there is someone who understands what I am talking about.

It is akin to the air that I breathe, without it I cannot live.

Prayer for me is no longer asking God to do for me and others but it is more like me needing to be in constant dialogue with God. To be in his presence continuously.

So Perseverance in prayer has become a way of life. When we pray asking for manifestations in our lives we often expect immediate answers or resolutions etc but it does not work like that on all accounts. If we are not mature spiritually or if we need a bit more work, especially in the area of patience and humble gratitude or whatever God deems as a weakness; he will withhold that manifestation or answer until we are aligned and in unison with his desire and purpose for our lives.

Don’t be discouraged. He is not being harsh. It is in these waiting times that God’s love for us is evident.
Why would he waste a good thing? That is exactly what would happen if we are not ready to handle the answer or the manifestation.

Perseverance in prayer is also necessary to highlight how the enemy works.

When God does not respond immediately if we are not strong and focused on God and his love during the waiting time we will give up. That is the enemy’s spirit of impatience, let’s not give into it. Persevere in prayer and show the enemy that there is no giving up simply because we know who we are in Christ Jesus. That we believe when he says he will not ‘withhold a good thing’. That we rest in His love because we know that his plans are good plans for our lives. That no matter what answer or no answer He is doing His best for us. We have to declare that over our lives to reinforce our total surrender and dependence on God.

Perseverance in prayer is necessary as it demonstrates to God that we are faithful to his goodness over our lives. Prayer builds us and helps us become focused on God. Prayer reduces our dependence on earthly things. Prayer increases wisdom and helps us to think things through in a spiritual way. That’s the Holy Spirit working in us because we are opening ourselves to the spiritual realm of life rather than the physical.

Perseverance in prayer is habit forming. Making that connection to God ever present. What a state to be in. Being ever close to God.
