“Individual growth and maturity takes place when we accept that we are unique to God’s design and purpose” JPJ.
God’s Word Translation Galatians 6:4
Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.
Excerpt from Max Ehrmann, “Desiderata” If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”
It is important to understand that we are all made unique to God’s purpose and design. There is only one of us and therefore we should save ourselves the heartache of trying to match up to others.
We all have role models and people who we use as a guide in fashioning our lives, but that is where it has to stop. We are told that in making a product it’s okay to replicate an existing one. In replicating we have to make our product better so as to ensure its success and distinguish it from the original product. And so it is in our own lives, role models are there as a guide but we do not want to have the same accomplishments as our role models we want to be better. We want to distinguish ourselves and not live in the shadows of anyone. We want to leave our own mark.
In our unique way we each can add value to our individual lives and situations and that is what we should strive for. I believe that when we are working at our optimal, when we know without a doubt that our output is 100% then we will be satisfied with ourselves and reduce the need to compare.
Not comparing also reduces the need to feel we are better than others which also eliminates boastfulness and conceit; two things we do not need in our experience of life. Not comparing ourselves will reduce our feelings of being less than.
Therefore let us be confident in ourselves and understand that we each are each unique to God’s design and purpose.
Affirm: I will not compare myself to others. I am confident knowing that I am unique to God’s design and purpose. It is well and I am well.
