Change needs a constant reminder especially in the beginning and change needs constant prayer.
Have you heard the quote before “you can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been” this simply means that if you are unaware of your past then it is quite likely that you may revisit or continue on the same path.
I am reminded often of where I was a couple years ago and where I am today. Back then I thought I could do it all even when I was constantly shown that I could not. I unconsciously rejected the things I should have held on to. In my reflections I realize that today I am stronger, more resilient, capable and more determined than I thought I was back then because of being aware of and acknowledging my past . I am reminded of how real God is.
I realize that God allows us to try when we feel we do not need him, he backs off and gives us the space that we cry out for wanting to try things on our own. We ourselves experience this everyday with the ones we love (our kids, younger siblings, nieces, nephews). We see them going down a road that leads to nowhere and we try to tell them and show them that we have experienced the very disaster that they are heading to. But do they listen? Of course not, at some point in our lives we were made to believe that we can exist through our own efforts; so we start to reject the advice of others.
In the same way we reject God, he loves us so much and wants to give us the direction that we need but we don’t listen, well certainly not the first, second or even third times… we tend to have to hit rock bottom before we get the message that if we try to do it on our own it will end up disastrous, most times a failure.
Thank goodness he is a God who understands, a God who is merciful, a God who does not take things personal and has a heart that none of us can begin to comprehend. A heart that welcomes us despite us constantly closing the door on him.
So I had to hit rock bottom before realization hit me , some things had to be taken away for my eyes to become open and my ears to start listening and for my heart to become receptive to God. It was at that point that I realized my life was perpetually the same way year after year. I was doing nothing different even when I thought I had made changes and so it is with many of us. We understand that we cannot continue to do the same things and expect different results. We try to change our thinking (on our own) and we self-talk and say things like starting tomorrow I will do…. but if we do not proactively implement these changes by writing them down, putting them somewhere in our radar, our vision where we can see it daily, then it just might not work.
Change needs a constant reminder especially in the beginning and change needs constant prayer.
Understanding that we have help from God is important and it is a key to better living and purposeful living that God has given to us. There is no need for us to do this alone; God is more than willing to be with us every step of the way. He sent us the Holy Spirit to be our teacher in all things that we undertake. He wants us to not be overwhelmed by life and the world, but instead to be in control of ourselves and the situation, So that we can experience calm, so that we can be more resolute, so that we can feel fulfillment and that our lives will constantly be one of purpose and satisfaction.
Let us keep that in mind as we stop doing it alone and allow the Holy Spirit our teacher to take us into our new realm of living. To take us from the past and bring us into the present. A present that allows us to experience life in an easier way, a more purposeful way.
Lets us be comforted by Philippians 4:13 GNT that tells us that “we have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives us.
